September has arrived and our first meeting of the 2009/10 season is upon us. It is with a bit of sadness that we will be leaving the Silk Purse after 3 years, but also with happiness that we will be once again meeting in the
District of North Vancouver Library-Capilano Branch
(3045 Highland Blvd.North Vancouver, B.C. V7R 2X4---Edgemont Village). Please note that our monthly meetings take place on the third Monday of every month(excluding December,July and August)at 7:00pm. We always welcome visitors and new members to our ever growing group of writers, so feel free to drop in on one of our meetings.
Also note on Wednesday, September 9, we will be kicking off the fall season with our first Dare to be Heard since May. This month, we will be featuring the novel "DIVIDED", written by Gerhard Winkler, one of our long-time members. It is an action-packed thriller set in 1961 Berlin, and is based in part on Gerhard's own life experiences in post-war Germany. Gerhard will start out the evening by reading from his novel, and talking about his experiences. There will also be time for others to read their own work, so be sure to come and help celebrate this wonderful accomplishment, and to share your own work. Please note that for this month only, we are holding Dare to be Heard on the second Wednesday.
Bernice Lever, another member of the NSWA, has just had her ninth book of poetry, "GENERATION" published. Bernice will be reading her poetry at Chapters in Metrotown, Burnaby, on September 17 and at two sites for Word on the Street, Vancouver, on September 27. She is also co-hosting poetry at Surrey International Writers Conference from October 23-25, and is reading at her many other poetry book launches. For more information on Bernice and her poetry activities, see her website www.colourofwords.com.
At this time the NSWA would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Cheryl and her staff at the Silk Purse for accommodating us for the last three years. It was a pleasure.
So without further ado, welcome back NSWA members and see you on September 21st where we will have a chance to proof read our new Anthology. Hope to see you all there.
