On March 19th, Lana Okerlund, Senior Editor of Room magazine, Canada’s oldest literary journal by and for women, will be speaking to us on the importance of submitting to Canadian literary journals. Lana will explain how publishing your short stories, poems and novel excerpts in these journals will help you hone your craft, build a portfolio, learn more about the author-editor relationship and establish your relationship with agents and publishers.
Lana will tell you what she looks for as an editor, how to package your submissions effectively, and how to stand out from others in the dreaded “slush pile”. She will also reveal the most amazing array of literary journals in Canada and lead you in the right direction to find the appropriate market for your work.

In addition to being a member of the editorial collective that publishes Room Magazine, Lana has edited a number of non- fiction books and has researched and written several business and life history books.
