We welcome back the membership and new members to our first meeting of 2012. Our first meeting of 2012 is a very special evening with Bob Mackay, author of the novel Soldier of the Horse. Inspired by his father’s WWI experiences, the novel tells of the sense of comradeship among soldiers, of the bond between horse and rider, and the rich military traditions and history of the Canadian Cavalry.

A native of Vancouver and raised in Surrey, Bob is himself a veteran of the Canadian Navy. He served in frigates, destroyer-escorts, and submarines. He has earned degrees in math and physics, and after he left the navy he returned to school and got a teaching certificate. Not one to stay in any place too long, Bob returned to school again and graduated with a law degree in 1976.

Bob is currently president of the Vancouver Branch of the Canadian Author’s Association. Join us this evening and hear about his journey to publication with Soldier of the Horse.
