Chapbooks

chapbook
n. a small book or pamphlet of popular tales, ballads, etc. formerly sold on the streets [because sold by chapmen]

Published annually, our chapbooks reflect the diverse and dynamic personality of the North Shore Writers' Association. Within the pages of these small books the reader finds an eclectic mix of stories and poems created by our members, who range in experience from novice to professional and published writers. Our most recent chapbook was published in November of 2005 and is proving to be our most popular to date.

Every year we print a limited number of our most current chapbook. Many of these are bought by our members as keepsakes and gifts for admiring friends and families. However there are numerous copies of the chapbooks made available to the public that can be found throughout the North Shore in gift shops, gallery spaces and independent bookstores. Keep your eyes open for our next little piece of literary delight.

The following poem is a sample of the eloquent work found in our 2003 Chapbook, Northwords:

Touch

By Bernice Lever

Somehow you live on your surfaces:

textures are all;

sensations everywhere heightened:

a fine cross hair;

colours sharpen:

a kaleidoscope tunnel, then blur

blending one into each other;

footsteps and waterfalls

echo your heartbeats

as you breathe

in one another.
